Disney World Dolphin Convention Hotel

Bordering Epcot Resort and Disney's Hollywood Studios, the Walt Disney World Dolphin Convention Hotel and Resort opened in June 1, 1990, joining its sister hotel, Walt Disney World Swan.

Located at Lake Buena Vista, the hotel is operated by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide under Sheraton Hotels, the largest and second oldest brand of the company, although it is a property of Disney Company. It serves as a gateway to the theme park.

The entertainment structure towers high up to twenty-seven floors of 257-foot tall triangular tower. The 58-foot tall Dolphin statue is considered one of the most noteworthy adornments of the building, despite it sparsely resembles a mammal dolphin. The statue is actually a stylized version of a nautical dolphin which has been the symbol on world nautical maps.

Walt Disney World Dolphin was designed by American Architect Michael Graves, the same person behind the designs of such important landmarks such as the Humana Building in Kentucky, 1500 Ocean Drive in Florida and National Museum of History in Taiwan. Graves is one among the "New York Five" architects, with Peter Eisenman, Charles Gwathmey, John Ejduk and Richard Meier. Their works were featured in the Museum of Modern Art and the book “Five Architects.” Graves’ design philosophy is often referred as classical postmodernism. The award-winning World Dolphin Resort offers special Walt Disney World Resort benefits including transportation to all Walt Disney World theme parks and attractions, ticket desks and advance tee times at any golf courses inside the theme park.
